Q: How do you make someone
blush with pride?
A: Tell their boss just how great they are!
Here’s how to do it…
1. Write A “Thank You” Note To Their Boss
Write a sincere, specific note of appreciation for the “star” you want to recognize. Write it to the boss, and copy your “star.”
To: Susan CC: Harry
Susan;
I want you to know how proud I am of Harry’s work on the ClearCorp project. Harry has worked so hard to win the new client, he created a new way of presenting our solution, and he was always there to help his teammates. We would not have been successful without Harry – I can’t wait to work with him again. Thank You Susan, and Thank You Harry!
2. Tell Their Boss In Person
Tell Susan just how great Harry is, whilst Harry is in the room with the two of you. Sure, he will blush, but he will be bursting with pride.
3. If You Are The Boss – Then Tell Yours!
Find an opportunity to tell your boss just how fantastic your team member is – again do it whilst both of them are in the room:
Claire, I’ve got to tell you that Amanda did wonderful work on the ClearCorp project. She was the one that came up with the new package design – she made me and my whole team look great. That’s why we recognized her with the promotion this year. I’m very proud to have Amanda on my team!
4. Don’t Forget The Boss “At Home”
Most of us have a support network outside of work. A spouse, partner or family member that allows us to focus on work when we are at work. Tell them just how great their spouse/partner/friend is, and don’t forget to thank them for their support.
At the company Holiday Party:
Jeff, it’s great to finally meet you. I’ve got to tell you that we are so proud of your wife, Amanda. She has done a brilliant job this year on our design team. I’m sure you know that she was a big part of the ClearCorp win and she thoroughly deserved her promotion. And Jeff thank you for supporting Amanda, I really appreciate you helping her to be so successful at her job.
Or how about a handwritten note to the spouse/partner/friend sent to their home address?

Find an excuse to do each of these “Thank You’s on Steroids” at least every six months.
What do you think? Have you used one of these Thank You’s? Do you have another idea for a “Thank You on Steroids”?
Thanks for reading,
Tim

Tim – what a wonderful reminder during the Holiday Season. My experience has taught me that the more we show our genuine, heartfelt appreciation, the more we have to be grateful far. It’s almost as if the ‘good, productive, value-add’ behavior of our colleagues takes on a life of it’s on. We acknowledge them….they do more….we acknowledge them…they do more. The key is to make it be genuine. If a dog can sniff out a person fearful of dogs then our colleagues can easily detect the tiniest hint of insincerity. Happy Holidays to all the fabulous folks at ZeaLeap!
